I am more than a tutor - I am a mentor, a motivator, a cheerleader, an advocate, and a resource for my students and their parents. In addition to my experience as a Homeschool educator and tutor, I have a MA in History, a MA in Interdisciplinary Studies, a GC in Education Technology and Online Instruction, a BS in Liberal Arts, and a minor of Visual Arts under my belt. I am a member of NCTIES, NCHE, Phi Alpha Theta, Phi Theta Kappa, Mensa International, and the Golden Key International Honour Society. I enjoy working with students in levels/grades 7-12+ in the subjects of writing, research, history, social studies, literature, visual arts studio, sociology, psychology, Christian heritage, and Bible study (denominational, non-denominational, literary, historical). I also enjoy working with undergraduate students on writing, research, and editing. Wyzant rating: 5 stars.
I am an internationally published Author in the genres of fiction and non-fiction with the honor of nomination for the NC Award in Literature for my non-fiction work. I have extensive research and composition skills with experience in Turabian, MLA, and APA styles. My strengths as a writing tutor include assessment, individualized student prompts and guidance for creative students, and logical, step-by-step, framework guidance for students who are mathematical, scientific, or on the spectrum. In addition to tutoring, I have several years experience as an academic and scholarly editor, proofreader, and researcher.
As a Historian with an MA in History, I am an active member of the AHA, SHA, OAH, DAR, and Phi Alpha Theta. My research focus is American history from the 17th-19th century with emphasis on the state of North Carolina. However, my passion for the development of civilizations-particularly Western Civilization-encompasses all of written history. I enjoy bringing history to life and, as an educator, have a multi-media approach to engage students' interest and motivate active learning.
As an Artist and experienced Studio Arts Tutor, I incorporate hands-on, visual arts lessons side-by-side with the science and history of Art to engage students and spark creativity. You can see a sample lesson module below:
